Proxmox VE is a excellent virtualization solution, and has numerous strengths that make it suitable for deployment in many environments. The tight integration of OpenVZ and KVM based virtualization, along with an easy to use web-based management interface make this solution stand out in the virtualization space.
roxmox has to be the most remarkable example of "under the radar" software. This was an instant (or the closest you'll ever get in a production environment) close to "no brainer" decision we've made in a long time. One morning of testing followed by a day of torture testing (to see if we could break stuff) was all it took - and we're well known for being extraordinarily picky about what we deploy!!
Proxmox is a painless virtualization and management solution. Lightweight, flexible, stable, unobtrusive, and splendidly supported by a first class group of people on the forums. We migrated all our OpenVZ VE's to proxmox effortlessly. We used KVM to install a windows server instance on the same host as a bunch of Linux VE's! (Yes, that still feels weird!) The degree of integration between KVM and OpenVZ is remarkable.
The web management interface is a joy to use. Sensibly and intuitively designed. it has almost everything necessary for one stop server farm management. It's lightweight, quick, informative, easy on the eyes with an absence of "gee whiz" eye candy, and has a solid "feel" to it lacking in "some other solutions" out there.
One feature that may not be apparent until you've been using the software for a while is that you can delegate a significant amount of repetitive server management tasks to less knowledgeable staff. No longer does it have to be the organization übergeek who is the sole command line pilot for ve creation and management. A competent individual can do almost all management tasks within the web interface without any difficulty. Invisible savings like that mount up over time!
We donated almost immediately, we intend to do so again, and we strongly encourage others to do the same. This is money well spent! Do it! Tell colleagues about this solution, the more widely deployed it is, the better for everyone.

CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliance is built on the community version of Redhat Enterprise Linux called Centos.
RAQport ships all the systems listed below worldwide.
This server appliance uses CentOS as operating system. As GUI interface it uses BlueQuartz, which is based on the open sourced RaQ550 Sausalito architecture from Sun Cobalt.
Sites, users, mailing lists and settings can directly be imported with the built in CMU from any Cobalt RaQ. So this is an inexpensive way to trade the aging Cobalt RaQs against much more modern hard- and software, while retaining the well known functionality and GUI interface.
A CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliance can do everything a RaQ550 and it does it much faster. A CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliance can do all including Frontpage. We do not have Chilisoft ASP at this moment ) - The serial ATA hardisks have a throughput of approximately 50 MBit/seconds and even the basic model with a 2.8GHz CPU outperforms a RaQ550 by several magnitudes.
Aside from the speed there are other compelling reasons to consider replacing existing RaQ3, RaQ4, XTR and RaQ550 with a CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliance

This server appliance uses CentOS as operating system. As GUI interface it uses BlueQuartz, which is based on the open sourced RaQ550 Sausalito architecture from Sun Cobalt.
Sites, users, mailing lists and settings can directly be imported with the built in CMU from any Cobalt RaQ. So this is an inexpensive way to trade the aging Cobalt RaQs against much more modern hard- and software, while retaining the well known functionality and GUI interface.

BlueOnyx is a Linux distribution (based on CentOS v5.2) which aims at delivering a turnkey server appliance for webhosting. It comes with a web based GUI interface which allows you (and your email, FTP and webhosting clients!) to manage most aspects of the server, its sites and accounts through a browser based interface. It is open source software, released under a Sun modified BSD license.
BlueOnyx is a modernized fork of BlueQuartz. A lot of improvements and enhancements (compared to a regular BlueQuartz) went into BlueOnyx. Including support for Java Servlet Pages, built in web based email, phpMyAdmin for you and your webhosting clients and provisions to automatically create MySQL databases and users for each virtual site.

How it works:
Ideally you have two identical servers. Each of them has two harddisks which do RAID 1 - either software RAID or hardware RAID. Both of these servers - or lets call them "Master Nodes" - are connected to each other by a crossover ethernet cable that plugs into the network interface "eth1" on both servers.
Additionally each server is connected to your switch or router that connects them to your LAN or to the Internet.
Both "Master Nodes" have one "shared" partition which is mirrored through "Raid over Ethernet". So all data that on this shared partition is constantly mirrored - not only on the internal RAID 1 that each server does by itself. It is also mirrored over to the other "Master Node" over the eth1 network interface.
During normal operation only "Master Node 1" has this shared partition mounted. All virtual private servers are stored in this shared partition and run out of it. So "Master Node 1" is serving all Web-, Email, FTP and other services off the virtual private servers that it provides.
"Master Node 2" just sits there and waits. Periodically (like one time each second) it monitors if "Master Node 1" is still alive and doing what it is supposed to do.
If "Master Node 2" realizes that "Master Node 1" is dead (for whatever reason), then it will mount the shared partition and will serve all virtual private servers.
To the casual observer it will look like there was a minor network glitch, but then he can continue to browse the webpage that he was visiting, or do whatever task on the virtual private server that he was visiting at the time.
As soon as "Master Node 1" returns back from the dead, "Master Node 2" will spot this. Both servers will negotiate and will arrange that the data of the shared partition is re-synchronized - so that both are fully up to date on all changes again.

WASHINGTON and NEW YORK, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR) and SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement, under which the companies will be combined in a tax-free, all-stock merger of equals with a combined enterprise value of approximately $13 billion, which includes net debt of approximately $1.6 billion.
Under the terms of the agreement, XM shareholders will receive a fixed exchange ratio of 4.6 shares of SIRIUS common stock for each share of XM they own. XM and SIRIUS shareholders will each own approximately 50 percent of the combined company.
Mel Karmazin, currently Chief Executive Officer of SIRIUS, will become Chief Executive Officer of the combined company and Gary Parsons, currently Chairman of XM, will become Chairman of the combined company. The new company's board of directors will consist of 12 directors, including Messrs. Karmazin and Parsons, four independent members designated by each company, as well as one representative from each of General Motors and American Honda. Hugh Panero, the Chief Executive Officer of XM, will continue in his current role until the anticipated close of the merger.
The combined company will benefit from a highly experienced management team from both companies with extensive industry knowledge in radio, media, consumer electronics, OEM engineering and technology. Further management appointments will be announced prior to closing. The companies will continue to operate independently until the transaction is completed and will work together to determine the combined company's corporate name and headquarters location prior to closing.
The combination creates a nationwide audio entertainment provider with combined 2006 revenues of approximately $1.5 billion based on analysts' consensus estimates. Today the companies have approximately 14 million combined subscribers. Together, SIRIUS and XM will create a stronger platform for future innovation within the audio entertainment industry and will provide significant benefits to all constituencies, including:
* Greater Programming and Content Choices -- The combined company is

to pick and choose the channels and content they want on a more a la

The combination creates a nationwide audio entertainment provider with combined 2006 revenues of approximately $1.5 billion based on analysts' consensus estimates. CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliance is built on the community version of Redhat Enterprise Linux called Centos.
RAQport ships all the systems listed below worldwide.
This server appliance uses CentOS as operating system. As GUI interface it uses BlueQuartz, which is based on the open sourced RaQ550 Sausalito architecture from Sun Cobalt.
Sites, users, mailing lists and settings can directly be imported with the built in CMU from any Cobalt RaQ. So this is an inexpensive way to trade the aging Cobalt RaQs against much more modern hard- and software, while retaining the well known functionality and GUI interface.
A CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliance can do everything a RaQ550 and it does it much faster. A CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliance can do all including Frontpage. We do not have Chilisoft ASP at this moment ) - The serial ATA hardisks have a throughput of approximately 50 MBit/seconds and even the basic model with a 2.8GHz CPU outperforms a RaQ550 by several magnitudes.
Aside from the speed there are other compelling reasons to consider replacing existing RaQ3, RaQ4, XTR and RaQ550 with a CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliance
The sudden demise of the Sun Cobalt RaQ has left ISPs and hosting companies with a time bomb: hundreds of thousands of RaQ servers worldwide starting to wear out – with no viable replacement. Fortunately, Linux specialists have the answer.

Founder of RAQport Virginia Technology Company Washington DC area.
Since 1998 RAQport.com offers software installations on server appliances like the Sun Cobalt. Since several years we also deliver the same services for CentOS + BlueQuartz server appliances. They are the open source successor of the original Cobalt RaQs and offer a much more secure and more modern hosting platform than the original RaQ's, the next generation of BlueQuartz server appliance software.
BlueOnyx is a Linux distribution (based on CentOS v5.2) which aims at delivering a turnkey server appliance for webhosting. It comes with a web based GUI interface which allows you (and your email, FTP and webhosting clients!) to manage most aspects of the server, its sites and accounts through a browser based interface. It is open source software, released under a Sun modified BSD license.
Development of Aventurin, which is a Linux Virtualization Appliance.
Aventurin allows you - with the same ease as on a Cobalt RaQ, BlueQuartz or BlueOnyx server - to create and manage virtual private servers. These virtual private servers can even run different Linux distributions. So on one Aventurin master node you can run multiple different Linux distributions side by side. This makes it ideal for ISPs or companies with their own IT infrastructure, as you can utilize your existing hardware in the most efficient fashion.
We offer Aventurin as downloadable ISO image, but also sell servers (and even clusters!) with Aventurin pre-installed.
We also offer server migrations, Linux consulting and troubleshooting related to these appliances and we manufacture custom tailored CentOS + BlueQuartzserver appliances in house.
We have put together a lot of software packages designed with the unique demands in mind which anyone who operates such a server appliance might have. Aside from commercially bundled software we also offer free downloads of ready to run PKG or RPM files.
Our hardware and software is designed to ensure a trouble free, relieable and secure operation of your server appliance - may that be an old Sun Cobalt RaQ, Qube, XTR, RaQ550 or a new Centos + BlueQuartz or BlueOnyx server. We also help out to troubleshoot specific issues which one might have with a server appliance and help with server migrations, installation of third party software or check servers for compromises and root kits.
