If the AV-SPAM cannot connect to MySQL, then that will result in a dramatic
drop in detection of SPAMs. I just checked it and that is working now.

These messages can be ignored. It's a notice only and has no ill side effects.
It just means that a message for someone is processed who is ...
a) either not a local user on the server
b) therefore has no default_prefs config file
c) the default settings will be used for him anyway
d) creation of the /var/spool/mqueue/.spamassassin/user_prefs failed, which
isn't needed anyway for non-local users.
To suppress those notice messages in the log I just went ahead and created the
directory /var/spool/mqueue/.spamassassin/, but even if it were not present it
wouldn't matter.

The SpamAssassin config files will always be stored in
~username/.spamassassin/
If they're edited through the GUI a copy of that file is left in
/var/spool/av-spam/, but those are just temporary files which are only used by
the GUI - not by SpamAssassin itself.
Now the problems with your AV-SPAM were as follows - and they're fixed now:
1.) Reject Highscoring SPAM was set to "No". This really should be enabled.
It'll cut down a lot of your load. I changed it so that it's now on and
rejects all SPAM with a score above 8.
You will notice that the load of your server went from 12.00 to below 1.00 as
soon as I had re-enabled rejection of high scoring SPAM.
It would go even lower if Greylisting were enabled, but as indicated in the
docs Greylisting is often undesired as it will also delay legitimate emails
(for ~15 minutes) from users who haven' emailed you in the last 7 days.
2.) AV-SPAM was deleting/quarantining SPAM for users that were using that
feature. This was because the permissions on some/many user home directories
were wrong. Hence you get a ton of "suspicious procmailrc file" error messages
in /var/log/messages. I fixed that by running these two commands:
ls -k1 /home/sites/*/users/*/.procmailrc sed s/\\/.procmailrc// xargs
chmod 2741
ls -k1 /home/sites/*/users/*/.spamassassin sed s/:// grep -v bayesgrep -v
user_prefs grep ^/ xargs chmod 2700
That changed ALL user home directories to the correct permissions (1st
command) and then changed the permissions on the ~username/spamassassin/
directories to what they need to be (as the 1st command messed that up).
As far as I can see from the logfile and statistics the AV-SPAM is now working
fine again।

This server appliance uses CentOS as operating system. As GUI interface it uses BlueQuartz, which is based on the open sourced RaQ550 Sausalito architecture from Sun Cobalt.
